Community Camping Weekend

    We will share meals, contemplative walks, hikes and campfire conversation, stories and song in a weekend camping adventure in the Magdalena mountains.  We have reserved  the Water Canyon group campsite in the Cibola National Forest from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.  The campsite is about a 1 hour 45 minute drive from Albuquerque.  All are welcome to join us for one night or two or for just the day on Saturday.  The Magdalenas are a remote and lightly used National Forest with a variety of trails and views.  

    You will need to bring bedding, shelter, rain gear, seating, drinking water and other camping necessities.  if you can bring a bundle of firewood, please do!

    Arrive as early as 2:00 pm
    Set up your tent and settle in

    Breakfast around camp fire (when people get up)

    10:00 am       Drala Meditation Hike

    2:00-6:00 pm   Relaxing and hanging out

    6:00 pm         Potluck dinner/cookout

    10:00 am         Drala Hike (optional)

    2:00 pm         Break down camp and head home


    Dogs: If you are planning to bring your furry friend, make sure they have a mindful temperament and get along with other dogs and children. Also, Forest Service regulations state that dogs need to be on a 6 ft. leash at all times.

    DIRECTIONS:  Take I-25 South to first Socorro exit 150 for US 60 W toward I-25 BUS W Socorro/Magdalena.  Continue through town on BUS 25 California St for 1.4 miles.  At Spring St. (stop light), turn right.  After .5 mile, turn left onto US 60.  In 15 miles, you will see a sign for Water Canyon.  Turn left and go another 4.7 miles.  When you arrive at the campground, turn right on dirt road to group campground.  We will mark the route to our campground with flags.
